20 November 2022European Civic Service launch ceremony in Malta, October 21, 2022
On October 21, 2022, we inaugurated the first European Civic Service project in Malta 🇲🇹 in the presence of Maltese institutions, our partner associations and a number of young people.
We would like to thank them all for their welcome and contribution, which made this initiative possible.
🇪🇺 We hope to be able to expand the project in the near future, and we are continuing to cooperate with French and Maltese diplomats to explore the possibility of cooperation between these two countries in the field of youth exchanges, following the example of the Franco-Italian Quirinal Treaty.
The Malta council for voluntary sector hosted the launch of the European Civic Service project in Malta – a project led by our “Collective for a European Civic Service” with which MCVS is collaborating as a partner organization, as well as with other member states such as Italy, France and Austria. The aim of this project is to encourage young volunteers to take part in voluntary service both locally in their own country and in a European country, thanks to funding from the European Solidarity Corps. In Malta, the local aspect is already covered by the Youth Voluntary service, run by MCVS. What’s more, by obtaining the Lead quality label, MCVS will also be able to start hosting European volunteers supporting a number of different local organizations in 2023. YMCA Malta and Agenzija Sapport will begin the European Civic Service journey in October 2022, each hosting two European Civic Service volunteers.
The event was held under the patronage of Mrs. Julia Farrugia Portelli, Minister for Inclusion, Voluntary Organizations and Consumer Rights, and the French Embassy in Malta, represented by the Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Action, Mr. Renaud Lallement, who also addressed the event. Benjamin Sibille, founder and managing director of Collectif pour un service civique européen, France, and Mauro Pace Parascandalo, managing director of the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector, which officially launched the project, also took the floor.
The event, held at the National Philharmonic Society in Valletta, was attended by representatives of the European Union Programmes Agency (EUPA), the Malta YMCA, Agenzija Sapport, other voluntary organizations currently hosting young Maltese as part of the Youth Voluntary Service, and young Europeans currently in Malta as part of the European Solidarity Corps.
