Participating towns and associations :
- Association le Collectif pour un service civique europeen and the city of Sarraguemines, France.
- Association Mobydick ETS and the Città di Vietri Sul Mare, Italy
Brief of the project:
Through an initial twinning between Sarreguemines and Vietri materialized around a project aimed at preserving and promoting local craftsmanship, our objective is to truly strengthen the Franco-Italian friendship by initiating a cultural exchange in craftsmanship accessible to all generations, while transmitting common European values to both communities, and providing to both communities a European opening, including to a shared German heritage. Rich in meaning and sharing, this collaboration fosters European opportunities between the two cities, accomplished through a variety of activities primarily intended for young people but also open to all citizens and built around a common cultural and industrial legacy: the one of ceramics. Thanks to public meetings allowing representatives from both municipalities to meet and discuss specific topics, as well as activities highlighting their commonalities for the youth and the citizens, these elements constitute the foundation of the envisaged twinning.
It has a clear scaling up target, as it is envisioned on the French town territory to build a “living art Museum of ceramics”, this cooperation will help to develop. The central objective is to strengthen mutual support, cohesion, and cooperation among the citizens around a theme that these two European cities can preserve together. Indeed, Vietri sul Mare and Sarreguemines are both the origin of the European ceramic industry, an industrial and artistic legacy recognized by UNESCO. Concretely, we propose various activities related to the ceramic industry and Europe, where proactive working groups supervised by experts and professionals in this field will create ceramics and pottery together while discussing European-related topics. The intention is to raise awareness among citizens of the shared richness carried by the two cities, deserving greater visibility and recognition in Europe.
