Cities and associations

Association Collectif pour un service civique européen and city of Sarreguemines, France.

Association Mobydick ETS and city of Vietri sul Mare, Italy

Project presentation:

Thanks to an initial twinning agreement between Sarreguemines and Vietri, formalized around a project to preserve and promote local crafts, our goal is to truly strengthen Franco-Italian friendship by initiating a cultural exchange focused on crafts, accessible to all generations. It also aims to transmit shared European values to both communities and offer them an opening to Europe, particularly to a shared German heritage. Rich in meaning and shared experiences, this collaboration fosters European opportunities between the two towns through various activities primarily aimed at young people, but open to all citizens and centered around a common cultural and industrial heritage: ceramics. Public meetings allow representatives of both municipalities to meet and discuss specific topics, while activities highlight their shared interests for young people and citizens. These elements form the foundation of the planned twinning.

This project has a clear expansion goal: the creation, within the French territory of the city, of a "living ceramics museum," whose development will be facilitated by this collaboration. The main objective is to strengthen mutual support, cohesion, and cooperation between citizens around a theme that these two European cities can preserve together. Vietri sul Mare and Sarreguemines are indeed both cradles of the European ceramics industry, an industrial and artistic heritage recognized by UNESCO. In concrete terms, we propose various activities related to ceramics and Europe, in which dynamic working groups, guided by experts and professionals in the field, will create ceramics and pottery together while addressing topics of European interest. The intention is to raise awareness among citizens of the shared heritage of the two cities, which deserves greater visibility and recognition in Europe.
