Words from our Founder and Co-Founder
Founder and President
“How do all SCE adventures start? On a stroke of enthusiasm mixed with madness!
We committed ourselves to this idea of European Civic Service based on several convictions. First of all, the need to better embody the European Union, by anchoring it in the daily life of European citizens in a concrete way, and for this, the experience of living in another country of the European Union, of mixing with its population, of learning its language, of discovering its culture, in a word of discovering ourselves authentically European, by everything that brings us closer to the other peoples to whom we have linked our destiny – seems to us to be absolutely essential.
Secondly, to discover oneself as a citizen, and for this the voluntary commitment of civic service – the gift of oneself, in missions useful to the whole of society, which it represents – constitutes a new model of active citizenship.
By becoming, like all the other members of the association, a volunteer at the service of this great dream, aiming at allowing a whole European age group of one day to discover itself in another Member State, while allowing to face tomorrow’s challenges in solidarity thanks to the missions of the European Civic Service, you are already accomplishing it.
“You will join about fifty volunteers, of more than a dozen nationalities, spread all over Europe, working on each of the multiple aspects of this project.
Our philosophy is that of a citizen movement, participatory: each task accomplished, however small, contributes to the realization of this dream that we carry. We therefore ask you, above all, as a volunteer, to give us your energy and enthusiasm, choosing the aspects necessary for the advancement of the project that interest you most (communication, research and conclusion of international partnerships, fundraising, institutional work, research, etc.), according to your skills and the time you can devote to the accomplishment of this great enterprise.
You will then be integrated into a specialized pole, with other volunteers alongside whom you will work to advance our cause, often collaborating from a distance. Of course, nothing is set in stone and our activities are sufficiently vast for you to get involved in various projects. Our objective is that each one finds his place and can contribute in the most useful way, by appropriating the dimension of the Collective’s project in which he specializes, in order to become autonomous. Good ideas and initiatives are a plus.
You will join volunteers from all over Europe, who make this project live on a daily basis.
Only one request at the end: to help us to become the Europe of the Citizens.
A promise: you are in the right place if you want to do it and participate, at our level, to change the world and improve our society.
